Ue-Microsoft, un punto per Bill Gates

Ci è capitato per le mani un interessante documento. Nella “guerra dei browser” fra le Autorità antitrust e Microsoft, riaperta inaspettatamente da Bruxelles, su sollecitazione di un competitor dell’azienda di Seattle, prendono posizione alcuni produttori riuniti nella Computer Technology Industry Association. Il loro “statement” è significativo perché ribatte con vigore alle tesi dell’Antitrust, dal punto di vista di attori che sono partner di Microsoft ma non si sentono “parte lesa”. Particolarmente interessanti, limpide nella difesa di una “libertà dei produttori” necessariamente complementare a quella dei consumatori, e giustamente severe su un punto cruciale: la concorrenza non si costruisce attraverso “mandati”, disposizioni in punta di baionetta, le conclusioni:

If installing multiple browsers were in the interests of our customers, there would be no need for the Commission to require it. As OEMs, we are free to install multiple browsers on Windows PC and we would do so because satisfying customer demand is key to our success in the market place. But we do not believe the must carry approach serves our customers well. Just the opposite, And we know that it will drive up our costs at a time of severe economic recession when we can ill affordo to absorb such additional costs. We respectufully request the European Commission to reconsider and abandon the must carry approach.
