Brooking Ferruccio

Da un po’ di tempo a questa parte le idee di David Brooks (oggi direttore dell’ AEI) circolano sulle pagine del Corriere della Sera.

Le recenti battaglie intraprese da Via Solferino  hanno fatto forse distrarre la redazione che non ha offerto ai lettori uno degli ultimi interventi dell’opinionista del New York Times.

Sostiene Brooks che mentre le elitè americane discutevano di preghiera nelle scuole pubbliche e di morale sessuale i reali problemi del paese non venivano affrontati.

Over the past few years, however, there clearly has been an erosion in the country’s financial values. This erosion has happened at a time when the country’s cultural monitors were busy with other things. They were off fighting a culture war about prayer in schools, “Piss Christ” and the theory of evolution. They were arguing about sex and the separation of church and state, oblivious to the large erosion of economic values happening under their feet…

Non finisce qui. Sostiene giustamente Brooks che il dibattito politico americano è strutturato attorno a categorie obsolete (lo stesso  ragionamento potrebbe applicarsi al contesto italiano).

Our current cultural politics are organized by the obsolete culture war, which has put secular liberals on one side and religious conservatives on the other. But the slide in economic morality afflicted Red and Blue America equally.

In realtà, ci dice Brooks, la prossima Guerra culturale sarà fra quelli che vogliono più Stato e quelli che difendono la primazia dell’homo faber. Di quelli che producono su quelli che consumano.

Forse il Corriere potrebbe ripensarci ed offrire ai suoi lettori questo contributo. Editori permettendo.
